Solve: 3(2x + 4) − 2(x − 1) = 30
= 6x + 12 − 2x + 2 = 30
= 4x + 14 = 30
= 4x = 16
∴ x = 4 ✓
Check: 3(2×4 + 4) − 2(4 − 1)
= 3(12) − 2(3) = 36 − 6 = 30 ✓
Generalise: if 3(2x+a) − 2(x−b) = c
then 4x = c − 3a − 2b
x = (c − 3a − 2b) / 4
